Good Eats Gold Cake
This is a great, simple cake. Can be turned in to a lot of other cakes.
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup butter flavored shortening
- 1.25 cups sugar
- 2.5 cups cake flour
- 3 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 8 egg yolks, beaten
- 3/4 cups milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 tsp lemon zest
Prep
- Preheat to 350
- Sift baking powder and flour
- Grease two 9" pans
Process
- Stir shortening on low for 1 minute
- Add sugar, up to medium and stir for 4 minutes
- Add eggs 1 at a time
- Alternate adding the rest of the dry and wet ingredients
Evenly add to pans
- Bake for 18-20 minutes
- Cool in pan 15 minutes, then completely on rack
Modifications
