Martha Stewart Recipe
Prep
- Preheat Oven to 350
- Butter and flour two cake pans, add parchment round to bottom, lightly spray with Pam
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups cake flour, not self-rising
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 1/2 cups canola oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup red food coloring
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 2 teaspoons white vinegar
Process
- Whisk flour, salt, cocoa
- In mixer, combine sugar and oil
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well on medium
- add food coloring and vanilla
- Turn mixer down and add flour mixture, alternating with buttermilk, scraping as needed
- Combine baking soda + vinegar in small bowl, stir, add to cake batter and stir 10 seconds
- Put in cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick is not quite clean
- Cool on rack in pans 5 minutes
- Turn out on to rack, cool completely
Frosting
Needs at least 24 oz butter and cheese total. Cream_cheese_frosting
